Munich Airport’s new T1 Pier for non-Schengen traffic has been in operation since April 21, 2026. Covering 95,000 square meters, the new terminal area provides additional capacity for up to six million passengers a year and has been designed specifically with international long-haul travelers in mind. Singapore Airlines, one of the world’s most renowned airlines, is expanding its services at Munich Airport. Starting with the winter flight schedule at the end of October 2026, the number of weekly flights will increase from seven to ten. In addition to the existing daily flights departing around noon, Singapore Airlines will in the future offer evening flights from Munich on Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays.

Automation is reshaping the future of air cargo - and Munich Airport is leading the way. With autonomous freight transport between the cargo area and the airfield, the airport is setting new standards in efficiency, safety, and innovation together with Cargogate Munich Airport. An autonomous tractor is streamlining cargo flows by reducing distances, optimizing processes, and accelerating turnaround times.

EVA Air has now been operating successfully at Munich Airport for over three years, offering four weekly nonstop flights to and from Taipei. Cargo infrastructure at Munich Airport continues to grow with the ‘Cargo Handling Area Expansion’ project reaching a key milestone. With the detailed design completed and the construction contract awarded, work on the new cargo staging area is now well underway. The project expands capacity in the southern cargo area and lays the groundwork for future volume growth. 

The new summer flight schedule at Munich Airport brings expanded global connectivity for passengers and cargo alike. With new destinations, additional frequencies, and larger aircraft, airlines are strengthening both travel options and belly‑hold cargo capacity. Increased long‑haul services to key markets in the Americas, Asia, the Middle East and North Africa offer greater flexibility and improved access to global supply chains.

Ten years ago, on April 26, 2016, Terminal 2 Satellite opened at Munich Airport. Since its opening, approximately 93 million passengers have used the facility, and a total of about 672,000 flight movements have been handled. Within the Terminal 2 system, this area accounts for around 30 percent of takeoffs and landings as well as 36 percent of passengers. 

On May 22, 2026, Air Serbia will start operating direct flights between Munich and Belgrade again after 18 years. The Serbian airline will offer daily flights between Munich and the capital of the Republic of Serbia, with a flight time of 1.5 hours. The flights are operated by modern E195 jets. Air Serbia offers a two-class configuration with a total of 118 seats divided between Business and Economy Class.

A new chapter for non‑Schengen travel has begun at Munich Airport with the opening of the new Terminal 1 Pier. Serving around 40 airlines, the state‑of‑the‑art facility strengthens intercontinental infrastructure while offering passengers a modern, comfortable travel experience. With clear wayfinding, centralized security and passport control, and an attractive dwell environment, the new pier sets new benchmarks in efficiency and quality. 

Today, Munich Airport's new Terminal 1 Pier has officially started regular operations. To mark the occasion, Thomas Hoff Andersson, Managing Director & Chief Operating Officer at Munich Airport, personally welcomed travelers. With the new pier now open for regular operations, it sets another milestone in the ongoing development of Munich Airport. 

This afternoon, the new pier in Terminal 1 at Munich Airport was officially opened with a festive ceremony. Around 1,000 invited guests from the worlds of politics, business, and aviation were present for the event. 

Munich Airport is supporting Bockhorn Elementary School with new books, reading workbooks, and music materials. The goal is to promote reading skills and expand musical opportunities for students.
