Munich Airport is the first German airport to achieve Level 1 of the Accessibility Enhancement Accreditation (AEA) program of the global airport association ACI World. This accreditation underscores Munich Airport’s strong commitment to people with disabilities and those with reduced mobility.
The AEA program supports airports in measuring, evaluating, and continuously improving their accessibility management and accessibility culture. It is the only international assessment and accreditation program specifically dedicated to airport accessibility for people with disabilities.
It takes a holistic approach - in addition to infrastructure, the assessment also considers strategy and management, processes, training, and corporate culture. The evaluation criteria include, among other things, accessible entrances and wayfinding systems, PRM service quality, digital-, information-, and communication- services, support services for travelers with limited mobility, increasing awareness among airport employees, and collaboration with disability organizations. In addition, the assessment evaluates the integration of accessibility into corporate strategy and management, the application of design principles, and compliance with national and international standards. The goal is to ensure a seamless travel experience for all passenger groups.

After successfully achieving Level 1, the focus is now on the next stage of the AEA program. Munich Airport's next step is to achieve Level 2.
