Mountain Hub Distillers is a cooperation between Munich Airport brewery Airbräu and the Mountain Hub restaurants of the Hilton Munich Airport Hotel. The new infused beer spirit was awarded a silver medal in the "Spirits from Beer" category of the prestigious Meininger's International Spirits Award 2022. A jury of 30 experts tasted and evaluated a total of 562 spirits from the categories of brandies and spirits, liqueurs of all kinds, wine brandies and grape marc brandies.
During the lockdown, Airbräu brewmaster René Jacobsen had decided to refine 4,000 liters of Airbräu beer in a gin style to save it from disposal. By distilling the beer and redistilling it with selected botanicals such as juniper, spruce needles, bloodroot or pine shoots, an intense and aromatic "infused beer brandy" with a unique taste was produced with loving handwork.
"I am delighted that the rescue efforts have resulted in such an inspiring and now award-winning high-proof drop," comments brewmaster Jacobsen.
