Press: Munich Airport named “Airport of the Year 2026”

Food concepts at Munich Airport receive several prizes. At this year's "FAB Awards – Airport Food & Beverage + Hospitality Conference & Awards", which took place on 25 and 26 June in Barcelona, three concepts from Allresto, the gastronomy subsidiary of Munich Airport, were recognized with three awards. The winners were Airbräu, Café Aïda and the Food Hall in the Terminal 2 satellite terminal. The FAB Awards is a renowned trade conference and considered as the world's most important platform for airport gastronomy, retail and hospitality.

Yesterday in Athens, the winners of the annual ACI Europe Best Airport Awards were revealed and celebrated at ACI Europe’s 35th Annual Congress and General Assembly. With these awards the airport association honors airports that have made a significant contribution to the development of the airport industry. 

Munich Airport was named "Best Airport in Central Europe" at the Skytrax World Airport Awards 2025, which took place during the Passenger Terminal EXPO trade show in Madrid on April 9. In the global passenger survey conducted by the London-based aviation research institute Skytrax, Munich Airport came in ninth place. This makes it the only German airport among the top 10 in the global ranking.

Munich AirportAcademy has been officially recognized as a member of the International Civil Aviation Organization’s (ICAO) esteemed TRAINAIR PLUS Program (TPP). This important achievement was announced at the Global Implementation Support Symposium in Abu Dhabi, February 10-12, 2025. The certification acknowledges the Academy’s commitment to providing world-class aviation training and its alignment with ICAO’s rigorous standards for competency-based education.

Munich Airport International GmbH (MAI) and its subsidiary, Munich Airport NJ LLC (MANJ), today announced Terminal A at Newark Liberty International Airport (EWR) was awarded a 5-Star Airport Terminal Rating from Skytrax, the air travel industry’s premier rating organization. 

Munich Airport and Lufthansa can bask in the glory of a highly coveted accolade: At the 2017 World Airports Award, announced by the London-based Skytrax Institute, Munich Airport's Terminal 2 was honored as the world's number one terminal. The rankings are based on a survey of 14 million passengers around the world. Terminal 2, which opened in 2003, now includes the new satellite facility that went into operation last April. The completion of the expansion project has increased Terminal 2's capacity from 11 million to 36 million passengers per year. The new building has 27 pierside stands, providing passengers with direct access to their aircraft with no need for a bus transfer. Terminal 2 is jointly operated by Munich Airport and Lufthansa as a 60:40 partnership.
