Press: Munich Airport wins Red Dot Award and German Design Award

Two awards for redesign of brand identity

November 11, 2025

The redeveloped corporate design of Munich Airport has received recognition beyond the industry: within just a few weeks, the brand identity has won two awards. In September 2025, the jury of the Red Dot Award, one of the world's most prestigious seals of quality for design, honored the new design in the "Brands & Communication Design" category. Just four weeks later, this was followed by receiving the title of "Winner" in the category of "Excellent Communications Design – Corporate Identity" at the German Design Award. This award recognizes projects that promote innovation and offer new perspectives through their design. The German Design Award ceremony will take place in Frankfurt in February 2026. On November 7, the airport's brand team celebrated receiving the Red Dot Award together with the responsible agency, Serviceplan Munich, in Berlin.

The two awards confirm the strategic importance of the redesign: The corporate design was developed to make the Munich Airport brand fit for the requirements of modern, digital, and barrier-free communication—without sacrificing the character and recognizability of the iconic "M." The new illustration style, clearer layout, and more distinct visual language ensure a consistent appearance in all areas. This applies to all areas, including passenger communication, retail, catering, and employer branding.

Around eleven years after its major brand relaunch in 2013, Munich Airport has further developed its brand identity. The distinctive and familiar M logo remains unchanged in form and has been appearing in the colors "dark blue" and "lavender" since November 6, 2024. The appearance is complemented by the additional color combinations "moss green" and "mint," "burgundy” with "rose," and "orange" and "beige."
