With the introduction of the JEEVES service robot, passengers at Munich Airport can shop at a self-driving robot. Originally designed for use in the hotel and healthcare sector, a robot of this type is now being used for the first time in the world as a "snackbot" at an airport. 

Munich Airport and South Korea's Incheon Airport Corporation (IIAC) are embarking on an intensive cooperation in the field of aviation training. Hag Jae Lee, CEO of Seoul Airport, and Jost Lammers, CEO of Munich Airport, today signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) at Munich Airport’s “Airport Academy”.

The ongoing positive development at Munich Airport is clearly reflected in the traffic figures for 2023. Passenger numbers rose by five million year-on-year to a total of 37 million. With its current passenger volume, Munich Airport has reached around 80% of the record level from the pre-crisis year 2019. The number of aircraft movements rose by six percent compared to 2022 to more than 300,000 take-offs and landings. The seat load factor reached a record level of 81.3 percent, thereby exceeding 80 percent for the first time since the airport opened. 

The Airport Academy, Munich Airport‘s  training and education center, has been awarded as Accredited Training Partner (ATP) by the Airports Council International (ACI), the world's airports association. The ATP program rewards selected training organizations, setting the standard for excellence in airport training. 

The steady upward trend at Munich Airport is reflected in the traffic figures for the first half of 2023: With 16.6 million passengers in the first six months, passenger numbers were more than 28% higher than in the same period of the previous year. In the first half of 2023, Munich Airport’s passenger volume therefore amounted to roughly three-quarters of the record figure from 2019. The average seat load factor of aircraft at Munich Airport in the first half of the year has never been higher:

At its most recent meeting, the Munich Airport Supervisory Board renewed CEO Jost Lammers’ contract, which was set to expire at the end of 2024, for another five years. The Supervisory Board Chairman, State Minister Albert Füracker, acknowledged the 56-year-old CEO’s achievements and congratulated him on the contract renewal at the meeting.

As an experienced business leader, Kunz will assume responsibilities in Newark on March 1, 2023, after a one-month transition phase.

A busy summer has gifted Munich Airport massive growth in all traffic figures in 2022: Passenger numbers rose by 19 million year on year to a total of 31.6 million.
