Munich Airport and Lufthansa are now part of the global Sunflower program, which was launched by Hidden Disabilities Sunflower at Gatwick Airport in the UK in 2016.

To ensure safe operations around the clock even in winter weather conditions, Munich Airport has a winter service in place from the beginning of November to mid-April. The winter service team is deployed at the airport in icy and snowy conditions. It comprises 184 vehicles, 152 of which are used to clear and de-ice the airfield, and 32 for roads, paths, and parking areas in the public area.

The airport subsidiary AeroGround and Lufthansa have signed a new, long-term handling agreement. This agreement is retroactive from November 1, 2024, and ends on October 31, 2031.

The Munich AirportAcademy and the University of Colorado Denver (CU Denver) Business School have signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU). The two institutions will collaborate on training programs for aviation professionals. 

The high and continuing demand for air travel is clearly reflected in Munich Airport's traffic figures for the first half of 2025: between January and June, nearly 20 million passengers used the Bavarian premium hub. This represents a 3.6 percent increase compared with the same period last year. With an absolute growth of 700,000 passengers, Munich Airport remains one of the fastest-growing airports in Germany. 

Starting May 1, Thomas Hoff Andersson (48) will join the management team of Munich Airport as Chief Operating Officer. In this newly created position, Thomas Hoff Andersson will be responsible for the operational management of the airport's complex handling processes, playing a key role in shaping the passenger experience at Bavaria's premium hub. He will also oversee Munich Airport’s subsidiaries AeroGround and Terminal 2.

After three years of reconstruction work, the fully modernized central security lanes in Terminal 2 at Munich Airport were officially opened today.

At the start of the Lunar New Year, which has a special meaning in many Asian cultures, Munich Airport can boast successful figures on long-haul routes to the Far East: 2.6 million passengers travelled from and via Munich to eleven countries in Central, South and East Asia in 2024. That's an increase of 38.7% compared to the previous year. Last summer, there were 105 weekly departures, with Bangkok being the most popular destination of the year, followed by Singapore and Beijing.

In the first five weeks of this year, the giant freighter named “Beluga” will be a regular guest at Munich Airport. BelugaXL is based on the Airbus A330-200F. It owes its name to its whale-like appearance. The Beluga mainly transports aircraft components between the various Airbus sites.

Munich AirportAcademy and Istanbul Airport's IGA Academy have signed a Memorandum of Understanding aiming to jointly develop innovative training programs and take education in the aviation industry to a new level. This collaboration will enable both academies to meet the changing needs of the aviation industry and provide students with a more comprehensive learning experience.
