Munich Airport donates book bags to first-grade students at Velden Elementary School

Start of the school year in Velden

Encouraging reading at an early age lays the foundation for a successful future. That is why Munich Airport supported Velden Elementary School by providing 160 book bags. These bags allow children to borrow books from the local library, foster their love of reading, immerse themselves in exciting worlds, and gain easier access to age-appropriate literature.

In the presence of Mayor Ludwig Greimel, library director Yvonne Hildesheim, library staff member Monika Thaler, and Stefanie Schmutz, a board member of the Friends of the Library, the book bags were ceremoniously presented to the first-grade classes. The blue cloth bags, printed with the school and airport logos, symbolize the partnership between the school, the local library, and the regionally based company, and help to firmly establish a culture of reading in everyday school life.

With this donation, FMG is providing targeted support for early readers. Deputy Principal Martina Halser, together with the first-grade teachers, expressed her gratitude for the generous support and Munich Airport’s commitment to cultural education.

A strong commitment to education and the joy of reading

The first-graders also demonstrated through song that reading and flying have a lot in common—taking off and diving into new worlds: "Reading means lying on clouds or flying like a bird. Choose whatever you like! Look down on the world from above!" they sang with confidence and enthusiasm.

The children once again warmly thanked the airport with a poem they had rehearsed with their teachers, Micha Jell, Christiane Pecho, and Stefanie Lorenz, before beaming as they received their book bags.

Reading proficiency is essential for academic success. Visits to the library with these colorful bags provide children with an enjoyable reading experience and help them develop a positive relationship with reading,
