In the presence of numerous guests from the worlds of politics and business, LabCampus, the new innovation center at Munich Airport, was opened in an official ceremony today by State Minister Albert Füracker, Munich Airport CEO Jost Lammers, Munich Airport CFO Nathalie Leroy and Professor Thomas F. Hofmann, President of the Technical University of Munich.
LabCampus, a wholly-owned subsidiary of Munich Airport, is a new, top location for innovation in the center of Europe that will bring together research institutions, high-tech industries, young companies and up-and-coming talents from all sectors and promote dialogue. With its collaborative concept and international links, the uniquely conceived “future hub” will unite national and global experts and leading businesses.
The first tenants to take advantage of the quarter’s special potential for innovation include Munich Airport’s training center, AirportAcademy, Deutsche Flugsicherung (DFS) and amplimind, the joint venture between AUDI and Lufthansa Industry Solutions. In the future, the group of tenants will be augmented by the planned relocation of the Technical University of Munich (TUM)’s Department of Aerospace and Geodesy.
State Minister Albert Füracker, Supervisory Board Chairman of Munich Airport: “LabCampus is set to be the cradle of unique innovations for aviation-related business models. We will thus complement the airport’s central role, namely to connect people and markets. LabCampus will make Bavaria even more powerful as a business location.”
Jost Lammers, CEO of Munich Airport, emphasized in his speech that the development of Munich Airport’s own innovation hub plays a key role for the attractiveness of the location and the future competitiveness of the company. “We have acquired innovative partners for LabCampus, who have an affinity for aviation and will help us to strategically and technologically enhance our premium airport while expanding our base for value creation,” said Lammers.
“The ability to connect research and business, the special architectural spaces for collaboration and contact, and the perfect national and international links make LabCampus an ideal innovation center at the heart of Europe,” said Nathalie Leroy in her address.
Dr. Marc Wagener, Managing Director of LabCampus GmbH: “With the first two buildings, LAB 48 and LAB 52, we have successfully laid the foundation and demonstrated the attractiveness of the concept. The enormous growth potential here at the airport offers us and other companies a unique opportunity to create an innovation campus of international stature.”
Professor Thomas F. Hofmann, President of TUM: “LabCampus ideally combines talent, education and innovation with the airport’s global reach. This is why we want to bring our knowledge of aviation, astronautics and geodesy to bear here in interplay with experts, technology startups, business partners and international markets.”
