SOF Connect has developed a unique vision to grow Sofia Airport by applying world-class standards based on Meridiam and Munich Airport’s successful experiences. The ambition of SOF Connect is for Sofia Airport to grow driven by Meridiam’s sustainability and resilience standards and become a success story similar to LaGuardia or Munich airports: a place where best practices can be replicated and brought forward, which will benefit the Bulgarian citizens, Sofia Airport employees and partners.
It is also to make Sofia Airport an enabler of social, economic, environmental and inclusive growth that contributes to Sofia and Bulgaria. An airport that, through public and private partnership, combining local and international expertise, will reinforce Bulgaria´s aviation tradition thanks to long-term commitment and new initiatives.
This takes into account that by mid-century, the aviation industry must reach net zero emissions for the world to stay on track and meet the goals of the Paris climate agreement. Meridiam and Munich Airport, which are experienced in implementing sustainable measures for reducing and compensating carbon emission, will bring the airport to new standards of carbon accreditation and environmental standards – serving as benchmark for other airports and industries in Bulgaria.
