Munich Airport powers ahead with cargo growth

Belly cargo continues to be the main driver

On a cumulative basis, we were able to grow by 8.7 percent in the first quarter of 2025, while the German average declined by 1 percent. Our positive development in air freight is due to the increase in long-haul connections and the associated higher additional cargo capacity. We expect further cargo growth for us if the economy remains stable.

The increase in belly capacity on long-haul routes will continue to be the main driver of our tonnage growth. In the current summer schedule, we will reach an all-time high with 357 intercontinental flights per week to 49 destinations.

New routes e.g. to OrlandoCalgary and Windhoek give industrial and logistics companies in the Munich Airport catchment area more options for direct loading in Munich. Meanwhile, growth in Asian volumes has also been bolstered by Vietnam Airlines' new service to Munich, launched at the end of last year. With Cathay Pacific another top airline will generate further growth from mid-June.

These developments underscore the growing importance of Munich Airport for southern Germany as a business location.
