Women in Motion - MStars

Munich Airport's MStars

March 9, 2020

At Munich Airport, the women's network »MStars« pursues a clear mission: Putting in the limelight the airport’s hidden female face(s).

Aviation still seems to be masculine in perception. »With the women's network, we aim to bring deserved attention to the female aspects of Munich Airport«, explains Vanessa Haumberger, the network’s founder and Head of Public Affairs at Munich Airport. This is not only an important issue for the women in charge of various tasks at Munich Airport; it is also good for the airport itself: »We are much more diverse than it once seemed, at all levels of our hierarchy, and that needs to be made visible!«

Lively exchange of ideas and experiences

The activities of the MStars are deliberately not limited to the airport campus. The network’s agenda includes a lively exchange with women's networks of other large enterprises in Bavaria. »We regularly cater for exciting evening events in charming locations where we give women a stage who make a difference in their fields of expertise. The core of these events is a panel discussion with women providing insights into their professional challenges, their motivations and the obstacles they had to overcome in the course of their careers«, explains Vanessa.

In 2019, the MStars have already held four much-attended evening events. In doing so, they have focused attention on women, who are setting the tone in the transport sector, make a difference in sports, work in various fields for a sustainable future, or deal with finances. The enthusiastic response of the predominantly female audiences proves the MStars’ initiative is hitting a nerve; in 2020, they are continuing their series of events with new topics and shall bring to the stage even more exciting personalities.

»There is still a lot to do«

If you ask Vanessa, whether it is still necessary to focus on the specific requirements of women in professional life, she has a clear answer: »We have made progress. We are on our way. But there is still a long way to go. That's why there is still much to do for passionate MStars.«
