Cathay Cargo insights - interview with Michael Spiegel, Area Cargo Manager

In June this year, Cathay Pacific, one of the world's leading airlines, launched flights between Munich and Hong Kong. The renowned Asian carrier connects these economic hubs four times a week, using a modern, fuel-efficient Airbus A350-900. Michael Spiegel, Area Cargo Manager Germany, Israel, Switzerland, Scandinavia & Eastern Europe at Cathay Cargo, shares insights on how cargo operations are benefiting from this new connection.

Cathay Pacific has started regular operations in Munich for the first time. How is your experience and how do you see the Munich cargo catchment area to fill up the bellies?

Michael Spiegel: "The introduction of our regular A350 passenger operations in Munich is indeed a significant and exciting development. From my perspective, the Munich cargo catchment area is well-positioned to capitalize on this opportunity. The region's robust infrastructure, coupled with a strong network of logistics partners, ensures that we can fill the bellies of our flights efficiently. Our strategic location in Southern Germany and the high demand for cargo services further bolster our capability to support Cathay Cargo’s operations in Europe."

We are committed to enhancing our solutions and services to meet the evolving needs of our customers. By embracing innovative technologies, digital solutions and fostering close collaborations with our partners, we aim to solidify Munich's position as a leading cargo hub in Europe."

Is there anything you would like to highlight particularly regarding the cargo sector at Munich Airport?

Michael Spiegel: "One aspect I would particularly highlight is the collaborative – even almost family – spirit within the cargo sector at Munich Airport. The synergy between the airport, airlines, and logistics providers plays a crucial role in driving our success. This collaborative approach enables us to deliver seamless and efficient cargo services, ultimately benefiting our customers and the broader industry."
