Cargogate – putting your cargo in good hands

Cargogate has been providing cargo handling services as a 100% subsidiary of Munich Airport since 1974. We function as a service provider for airlines that carry freight but do not maintain their own warehouse facilities at Munich Airport.

As a regulated agent with a 17,000 square meter facility, we perform all ex-warehouse functions, from receiving, sorting, break-bulk and consolidation, handover of cargo, as well as customs clearance and hazardous goods formalities. We are the only airfreight handler at Munich Airport with the infrastructure needed for proper handling of special cargo.

As of now, you can access shipment information for all our customer airlines in our customer portal.

Customer Portal - Keep track of your cargo, always.

Claudia Weidenbusch

Being the biggest and most valued cargo handler at Munich airport, we take responsibility in your cargo and our staff. Therefore we made „living responsibility“ our mission statement. It means doing what’s possible, not only what’s necessary, to deliver our customer’s promises with passion and full personal engagement as well as taking responsibility in our colleagues.

Export

Cargogate records the arrival of the received goods, accepts the documents, transmits the data to the airlines and prepares the necessary export documentation for standard and special goods.

Our employees accept the incoming export cargo at the loading dock and check the quantities, condition and security status. The goods are then strapped safely and securely to pallets or loaded in containers and wrapped to protect them against the weather. We sort the freight by airline and waybill number and position it for transport to the aircraft.

Our document couriers ensure timely delivery of the cargo documents to the departing flight.

Import

We pick up the incoming freight documents directly from the arriving aircraft.

We transport the unloaded import freight from the staging area to our warehouse where it is sorted by waybill number and addressee. Our employees check quantities and the condition of the freight and send a receipt notification to the airline, customs and the receiving carrier. Naturally we will also break down your bulk shipments according to your instructions. This ensures that the goods reach the hands of the intended recipient quickly and safely.

Cargogate processes the necessary import documents for EU and non-EU goods and transmits the receipt data to the ATLAS customs clearance system. We also prepare transfer manifests and process the forwarding of your freight, including the preparation of all necessary paperwork for airlines and receiving carriers.

Special goods

We secure and store special goods in special rooms to await collection by the receiving carrier or the onward flight to the final destination.

These facilities include cooling facilities as well as rooms for valuable goods, hazardous goods, radioactive goods and animals. In addition, Cargogate operates a border control office for Munich Airport for processing of incoming products subject to mandatory veterinary border controls.

Our staff check the accompanying documents and proper packaging and labelling in accordance with IATA and ICAO regulations. We then document these controls, prepare the waybill, and ensure proper storage and safe assembly of the freight for the flight.

Messaging

Cargogate uses proprietary software based on the same development platform as Hermes for warehousing of goods and the implementation of all airfreight processes and related activities.

Messages to authorities, airlines or freight forwarding companies can be sent optionally via SITA, fax or email.

The hand-held terminals used by our employees transmit information to our server directly via WLAN. Naturally we also have ATLAS / NCTS interfaces.

CIMP messages (Cargo Interchange Message Procedure) are automatically generated and transmitted at defined points in the processing chain.

Customs clearance

We have customs certification as an authorized receiver / consignee (ZE) and an authorized sender / consignor (ZV). Our link to the NCTS system (New Computerised Transit System) enables us to generate and transmit electronic shipping documents.

Cargogate registers the goods via the ATLAS customs system and stores them until they receive clearance.

If requested by the authorities, a customs inspection is conducted in our warehouse.

The goods are handed over in accordance with the Union Customs Code (UCC) (Regulation (EU) No. 952/2013).

Checklist for the transportation of animals as bulky luggage

Frequently the question arises as to whether an animal may be carried as luggage. In certain cases this is permitted, but certain conditions must be met. You can read the requirements for this under the following link:

We also provide you with a checklist here.

If these conditions are not met, please contact a forwarding company to have the animal prepared for transportation in the cargo hold.

Certified quality – tailor-made offers

To offer our customers effective and reliable services, we develop an individual handling package for every business model.

Our customers include airlines that transport cargo with special aircraft (both standard and express cargo) as well as those that carry co-loaded freight on passenger flights.

Since 2011 we have had IATA ISAGO certification (International Safety Audit for Ground Operators). This is an internationally recognized system for rating the quality standards of ground services providers.

In 2018 we were GDP-certifed (Goods Distribution Practice) for handling of pharmaceutical products as part of air freight (Import and Export) including Interim storage in temperature-controlled storage rooms (<-25°C ; 2-8°C ; 15-25°C)

Our environmental management system was certified under the stringent standards of the European EMAS Regulation (Environmental Management and Audit System) in 2012. The EMAS certification is confirmed in alternating years through a review and a re-certification audit. Under this EU seal of approval, companies undertake to continuously improve their services and processes and to develop and implement long-term measures to improve their environmental performance.
