Munich Airport can again enjoy the title of "Europe's Best Airport" in 2018. The Bavarian hub was selected for the honor in the annual World Airport Awards announced by the respected London-based aviation research institute Skytrax. The announcement was made in a special ceremony on the occasion of the international airport fair "Passenger Terminal EXPO 2018" in Stockholm.
At the highly respected Routes Europe Marketing Awards 2017 in Belfast, the airport's marketing team ranked number one in the category "Major European Airports" and also won the overall award. It recognizes aviation marketing teams for successful efforts in opening up new routes, attracting airlines and implementing projects. For the Routes Europe Awards, the flight and route planners of the airlines were surveyed on airports' marketing activities. The key factor for high ratings is an airport's ability to attract and retain new airlines and routes. The jury gave special mention to the fact that Munich offers 173 European destinations – more than any other airport. Equally impressive: 70 new routes operated by 20 different airlines were added last year. Another factor promoting growth was the dynamic development of low-cost traffic in Munich in 2016. As the overall winner, Munich Airport is now eligible for the worldwide award, to be announced at the Worlds Routes Marketing Awards on September 25, 2017 in Barcelona.
Europe's best airport, the best terminal in the world – and now yet another accolade for Munich Airport: In a new audit carried out by the London-based Skytrax Institute, Bavaria's gateway to the world has successfully defended its title as Europe's first and only five-star airport. In May 2015 the Bavarian hub was granted the five-star airport title for the first time. Before that, the only airports to earn the top rating of five stars were in Asia: Singapore, Seoul, Hong Kong and Tokio-Haneda. They were joined in January 2017 by Doha Airport. Munich has now successfully defended its title: Experts from the Skytrax Institute returned to scrutinize the quality of the services and the overall passenger experience and once again awarded Munich Airport the five-star seal of approval. The auditors' conclusion: Munich Airport not only maintained its outstanding quality, but actually improved on it.
Another big win for Munich Airport: The Bavarian hub has yet again been ranked number one among Europe's top airports in 2017. For the tenth time in the past 12 years, Munich Airport has been honored with the title of "Best Airport in Europe" in the World Airport Awards announced annually by Skytrax, a renowned aviation research firm based in London.
Munich Airport is yet again basking in the glow of a prestigious award after being voted Europe's Best Airport once more in 2016. The Bavarian hub's renewed success as the top European candidate in the World Airport Awards was announced by the respected London-based aviation research institute Skytrax. This marked the ninth time in 11 years that Munich has earned the number one ranking. Munich Airport also came out on top in the regional competition, beating out all rivals for the title "Best Airport in Central Europe".
